One of my favorite authors of Fantasy fiction is Patricia Briggs. I love her Mercy Thompson series. The heroine is a strong coyote shifter raised in a pack of wolf shifters. It’s set in the Tri-cities area of Washington state. So I was super pleased to go visit some customers for work in that area.
The drive took about four hours through Oregon and just over the line into the Tri-cities area. Kennewick, Pasco and Richland. The drive through the Blue Mountains and part of the Oregon Trail was breathtaking. I even got sick of myself saying, Wow, every few seconds. The mountain range is just so gorgeous. Huge rocky cliffs with lots of scrub and sagebrush giving way to more pine trees as I entered Washington.

Kennewick was my first destination. I didn’t have much time for sight seeing but was thrilled to see names and places mentioned in the book. Kennewick isn’t huge. And combined with the fact that I was recovering from dental procedure and an allergic reaction that included a midnight visit to the ER a few days prior had me mostly resting in my hotel. This area of eastern Washington is also high desert - so the landscape within the city wasn’t much to talk about. Still. I was glad to experience it and look forward to more trips there.
The next week I made the same trek through the Blue Mountains into Washington but veered off toward Walla Walla. Which is one of the most fun city names to say. Walla Walla Washington. Say that five time really fast and just try not to laugh.
Walla Walla is another medium sized town and lies in the Palouse Prairie near the Columbia Basin. After traveling through all the mountains, you level out on Rte 11 into a wide valley filled with agricultural fields and horse farms before arriving into Walla Walla. I arrived on a Monday so I wasn’t able to try out some of the better restaurants in town as they are closed on Monday nights. Man, my timing stinks. 😂

After this trip, I’m home for while - like almost two weeks with only a few trips around Boise for work. Maybe I’ll finally get my home office set up. It’s super hot for Boise in early June (90’s this week). I’m thinking I didn’t move far enough north. 😂
It’s funny though, as much as I’m the enjoying the time at home, I realized this morning that I miss the travel. Next weekend is Portland again for a quick 3 day conference. And then back to Oregon again for an overnight the following week.
As always, thanks for reading.
