Fire and smoke

Just when I thought we were in the clear….smoke returned to Boise with a vengeance on Thursday, pushed into our valley from the Wapiti Fire in the Boise National Forest and the Nellie Fire by high winds. The Wapiti Fire was caused by lightning and has burned 92,000 acres to date. Wednesday was clear and beautiful. But Thursday morning the air was hazy, eyes burned, sneezing and headaches occurred. Even inside the hospital with my customer it smelled of smoke. It’s slightly better two days out, but still hazy. Hard to see the mountains.

The air quality has been really bad. So I’ve been sticking indoors. Days like this make me second guess staying in Boise. Praying for lots of soaking rain soon. Unfortunately it seems to come with lightning that starts more fires.

The Spirit of Boise Balloon festival started this week. But I haven’t wanted to be outside. And it’s hard to see in the smoke. Maybe I’ll go next year .

On the opposite end of the spectrum, upper Montana had an August snowstorm of 11 inches!!

This week has been light on adventure except for a wonderful interpretation of A MidSummer’s Night Dream at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. The shows take place at a small outdoor amphitheater. It was a wonderful, raucous show on the last clear cool night this week. I also got the chance to see a few more new places in the coming weeks. So more adventures to come.
As always, thanks for reading.
